I've decided to make this thread simply because I'm annoyed with how often this topic comes up in the Kerning forums. No less than once a week does someone decide to ignore the search button and ask the dreaded "hao mach luk iz 1 watk werth????" post. So this is here to end it once and for all.
So just how much luk is equal to 1watk?
Simple. It all depends on your character. What you do is take the total amount of luk you have (That is, base luk + luk bonuses from equips) and divide it by the total amount of watk you have (That is, claw atk + glove atk + star atk + cape atk if applicable + pot atk if applicable). That's it. It's not hard at all. In formula form, to make it clearer, it looks like this: buy maple story mesos
(Total luk) / (Total watk)
That's it. Piece of cake, right? Right. And before anyone starts crying that this is wrong, siddown. I've got your counter-argument covered for you.
That can't be right! Lets say there are two Hermits both level 70. Hermit A has 300 total luk and a 80 total atk. Hermit B has 400 total luk and 80 total atk*. That means that for Hermit A, 3.75 luk is 1 watk, but for Hermit B, it's 5! The luk to watk ratio depends on level, and they're the same level so that can't possibly be right! buy maple story mesos
Except it is, and here's why. Think about things logically. What's the difference between a level 10 claw rogue and a level 100 Hermit? Absolutely nothing, except for the amount of total luk and watk each has. Aside from the fact that the level 100 Hermit has more AP to apply and is probably using a higher attack claw and stars, there's no difference between the two characters that makes the level 100 inherently stronger. The best way to illustrate the idea is this: Let's say you're level 45. You level to 46. You still use the same claw. For some reason, you forget to use your 5 extra AP. Do you get any stronger? No you don't. What does this mean?
It means that your level has absolutely nothing to do with how much luk = 1watk. It's all about your stats.
And if you want it proven mathematically, take a look at the Lucky7 formula, given here (And taken from crimsonsentinel's thread):
Max damage= (5.0*LUK/100)*Weapon Atk
Min damage= (2.5*LUK/100)*Weapon Atk
Just to make things easier, we'll use the formula for max damage. You could use either with this example, but the results will be exactly the same. We're going to bring back our old buddy, Hermit B to illustrate how this works. Alright, so we've established that Hermit B has 400 luk and 80 watk. So let's plug it into the formula. buy maple story mesos
(5.0*400/100)*80 = 1600.
Now, we've also established that for Hermit B, 5 luk = 1 watk. So let's subtract 5 from luk and and 1 to watk to see if the results are the same.
(5.0*395/100)*81 = 1600 (Rounded up from 1599.75)
What do you know, the formula works! Still don't believe me? We'll try it for Hermit A too.
(5.0*300/100)*80 = 1200
And since it's 3.75 luk to 1 watk for Hermit A, we'll subtract 3.75 from luk and add 1 to watk.
(5.0*296.25/100)*81 = 1200 (Rounded up from 1199.81)
So there you have it.
The formula works. The amount of luk needed to equal 1 watk can be found by simply dividing the former by the latter. Now that we have this established, I hope that we can all please, please, PLEASE shut up and stop making threads about 30760326702386 times a week on this subject. And I can't believe I just spent all this time explaining such a simple concept because people on here are too dense to figure it out.
Thank you and goodnight.
Also, please excuse any grammatical errors as I'm too lazy to go back and proofread my post at the moment.
*Numbers were completely made up by me. I'm too lazy to calculate the actual amount of luk a hermit would likely have at level 70, but for the purposes of my argument, my made up numbers work.
EDIT BECAUSE PEOPLE KEEP CRYING ABOUT HOW THIS IS A RATIO AND NOT LUK = 1WATK:
Okay, sorry. This post doesn't tell you how much luk = 1watk. It gives you the RATIO of luk to 1watk. If you want to know how much luk = 1watk, scroll down to Xaile's posts to find out (although I have no idea whatsoever what you would do with that information). But if you're just a random, claw Rogue or Assassin keen on finding out how much luk you need to compensate for an upgrade or downgrade of 1 watk or vice versa, then believe me, what I've shown in this post is exactly what you're looking for. This post should have convinced you of how accurate this method is in determining that, and if not, feel free to browse the rest of this thread to see how other examples hold up every bit as well.
So again, sorry I worded things wrong. I was under the impression that people preferred results over semantics. Forgive me for making such a stupid assumption. *rollseyes*
